Skateland

I don't have a lot of memories of elementary school, but one thing I remember with fondness is roller skating. Once or twice a year, a company would come to our school and turn our gym/cafeteria into a skating rink. The younger kids got to skate during the school day, for a couple hours. But the bigger kids got to go at night for a skate party! It was so much fun skating around the school gym floor with my friends. Going fast on your skates is like flying! I had not skated in a while, but a couple years ago, my Bahama Mama friends and I went skating one night and it was so fun.

Ben is a great skater . . .we've gone to Skateland several times between Bill taking him a few Saturday's and a few school functions. So, we thought it would be fun to get a couple friends and go on a summer day. Ben, Evan and Markie went, while I passed on the skates and took advantage of some time alone, to sit at a table and read my book. The boys enjoyed the skating, especially when they had any skate or contest that pitted "boys against girls"! It was fun to watch them and think of the memories of my own childhood.
