German "Research"

Ben is doing a report for school on Germany - so Bill said, "we should go to a German restaurant and try German food"! Great idea! So, instead of Google, I turned to my Facebook friends for a recommendation for a German restaurant. After several ideas, we decided on Bavarian Point in east Mesa. Well, we could not pronouce half the items on the menu, so we decided to try a few things. I had a pork roast in a sauce with saurkraut and Bill had duck. Ben tried goulash soup and Alex had fries (I know!). Well....the food was delicious! My pork was the best pork I ever tasted! The important part was exposing the kids to something different. I am not one of those moms who makes a separate meal for the kids than Bill and I are having. They have always eaten what we eat - with a few exceptions, but they at least have to "try it". I wanted them to acquire tastes for things other than mac 'n cheese and hot dogs. Later in life, they may go to a friend's house with a family that serves different foods, or be invited to a restaurant without fries on the menu! I wanted them to have tried many things so they or I won't be embarrased later by going "ewww" if there was something different than they were used to. It was an expensive evening - the restuarant was not cheap - but I think Bill and I agree that it was worth it to expose the kids to something out of the ordinary - plus it was new for both of us too! I would love to once in a while, take the kids to try a different type of ethnic food - - so..is Indian food next, or Vietnamese...or......to be continued!! Enjoy the photos from our evening!
