We Walked ALL NIGHT!

Relay for Life was last weekend - it's an all night event that raises money for the American Cancer Society. I was proud to be a part of it! What a night we had! We arrived around 6:00 p.m. and I got home at 6:00 a.m. the next day. Our captain Stacy was a real stickler. She made sure at least one person made the loop at all time. The event was at Tumbleweed Park in Chandler. The core group who stayed all night was made up of my wonderful PartyLite consultants! The one thing I will remember about Relay '09 was the COLD and the WIND! The wind blew hard until around midnight, it was pretty miserable. About the only way to stay warm was to walk and walk some more! I wished I kept track of how many loops around that track I did - someone said each lap was about 1/3 of a mile - I bet I walked it 20 times easy! The event itself was very emotional at times - the luminary lap was inspiring. PartyLite donated 84 dozen tealights that the participants walked with. Even more amazing was seeing the track lit up with thousands of white luminary bags - each one decorated. Most were in honor of those who lost their fight with cancer. During the luminary lap I couldn't help but think about people I know who lost the fight - like Debbie Mendoza just this time last year, my Aunt Carol last year as well, Nancy's dad Tony, Elaine's parents - her dad I knew but her mom I never had the honor to meet, my friend Holly and so many others. I walked for them - to remember and to prevent.
